Parents of the Year Winner Announced

We are proud to have sponsored the "Parent(s) of the Year" category at this year's Pride of Guernsey Awards. This category, celebrated during Saturday’s event, honours parents and guardians who go above and beyond for their children.

Leapfrog’s HR & Payroll Services Manager, Vicki Eppelein, said “This year’s shortlisted nominees all demonstrate tremendous resilience, dedication, and care, and choosing between them was no easy task. Every parent shortlisted — and indeed all the nominees — deserve recognition for the important role they play in their children’s lives.”

After much deliberation, judges chose Maria and Shane Cosgrove as the winners of the category.

Maria and Shane supported their daughter Krista through her cancer battle while caring for their grandchildren. Their selflessness and dedication earned them nominations from both their daughters.

The other nominees for the Parent(s) of The Year 2024 were as follows:

Dannii Friend
Nominated by her daughter Aaliyah, Dannii is praised for her unwavering support. She has been Aaliyah’s advocate, standing up against bullies and ensuring her disabilities were understood by teachers. “Her selflessness and resilience make her deserving of this award,” says Aaliyah.

Ellie Mitchell and Hugh Rose
Parents of three, Ellie and Hugh faced the challenge of baby Faith’s premature birth while running their businesses and caring for their other children. Nominator Emily Nuttall calls them “strong and hard-working parents.” Hugh finds joy in watching his children grow.

Hannah Mourant
Hannah, mother of six, is always there for her family and others in need. Her daughter Alisha describes her as “the strongest woman” she knows, always willing to help others despite life’s challenges.

Helen and Tom McGahy
After their daughter Romy was diagnosed with cancer, Helen and Tom made her treatment their priority while maintaining normalcy for their son. Nominator Jessica Mauger praises their teamwork and strength.

Jocelyn De La Mare
Jocelyn, mother of five, has gone above and beyond for her family since her husband’s passing in 2020. Her daughter Sapphire describes her as both a mother and a best friend.

Natasha and James Le Gallez
Natasha and James supported their daughter Abigail through surgeries and a rare genetic condition. Abigail recalls how they never left her side during her toughest moments.

Peter and Ven Price
Peter and Ven, nominated by their daughter Tracey, are praised for their lifelong dedication to their children and grandchildren, giving their family unconditional love and support.

Sadie Rosamond
After overcoming breast cancer and personal loss, Sadie remains a pillar of strength for her children. Her daughter Alexia calls her “the strongest woman” she knows.
