Time to Talk Day

Time to Talk Day

At Leapfrog, we know how important it is to look after our well-being at work. With Time to Talk Day on 6th February, it’s a great reminder of how open conversations about mental health can create a more positive and supportive environment. Sharing our feelings or how we manage stress—whether in a team meeting or just casual chitter chatter—helps normalise the conversation, strengthens connections, and allows us to learn from one another.

Why it’s worth sharing
“Everyone is unique, and each experience is different.” – Gloria Steinem.

  • Normalises the conversation: It reminds everyone that it’s okay to experience different feelings and emotions.

  • Builds connections: Sharing personal experiences brings us closer as a team and helps us see that we’re not alone.

Everyone experiences day to day life differently, and the ways we manage it can vary widely from person to person. This individuality is why it’s so important for companies to take a flexible and tailored approach when supporting their teams. By engaging with employees to understand their specific needs, organisations can create a workplace culture that actively reduces stress and promotes well-being.

Here are some simple Ideas that could improve stress in the workplace:

Encourage Regular Time Out

Taking short breaks during the workday can help employees refresh. Whether it’s a walk, grabbing a cuppa, or simply stepping away from their desk, this time can make a big difference.

Hold Regular Check-Ins

Managers should make time for one-on-one or team check-ins to gauge how everyone is feeling. These conversations are a great opportunity to lend an ear and offer support where needed.

Provide Flexible Working Options

Flexibility, like remote working or flexible hours, can help employees balance their work and personal lives, especially during stressful periods.

Create a Quiet Space

A dedicated area in the workplace can offer employees a place to relax or just have a few moments of quiet.

Offer Well-Being Resources

Provide access to resources such as mental health workshops, mindfulness apps, or on-site yoga sessions.

Encourage Support

Develop an environment where colleagues feel comfortable supporting one another. For example, creating buddy systems or informal mentoring can provide an extra layer of support.

Promote Physical Activity

Encourage movement by providing options like subsidised gym memberships, lunchtime walking groups, or standing desks. Physical activity is a proven way to relieve stress and boost mood.

Tailor Approaches to Individual Needs

Take the time to understand what works for each employee. For some, open conversations about stress may be helpful; for others, privacy and independent tools might be more appropriate.
