Our client, an independent and privately owned Guernsey-regulated family office, is seeking an experienced Head of Governance & MLRO to lead and enhance its governance team. This is a rare opportunity to shape, oversee, and enhance a well-respected governance framework while working directly with a close-knit, experienced team across multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
Acting as MLRO, remaining up to date with all regulatory developments, handling all internal and external suspicious activity reports, and liaising with the FIS.
Designing, maintaining, and implementing policies and procedures, including internal guidance notes, checklists, and staff training.
Acting as the main point of contact with external compliance providers, ensuring all communications and updates are implemented effectively.
Participating in key committees, including the new business, risk, and policies and procedures committees, and any others relating to AML and CFT.
Approving high-risk transactions and overseeing the management and monitoring of bespoke risk mitigation plans.
Overseeing the timely completion of periodic reviews and any resulting actions, ensuring these reflect changes in risk or regulatory requirements.
Managing and mentoring a small governance team, delivering AML inductions and organising appropriate topical and annual compliance training across the business.

Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years' experience in the finance industry, including time in a prescribed position. A relevant qualification such as ICA is essential, as is the right to work in Guernsey. The role requires strong organisational and communication skills, a detail-focused mindset, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines. A confident, inquisitive, and proactive approach is key, alongside a solid background in regulatory compliance and a strong interest in technology and innovation.
